Something not widely known is that the month of October is designated Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This is celebrated to show respect towards those with a disability who remain in the workforce and help to serve the community.

This year, NDEAM was themed Disability: Part of the Equity Equation, designated by the US Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. This organization is dedicated to helping those in need as well as recognizing those who help others overcome their limits.

All organizations are encouraged to participate in NDEAM as they can help raise the inclusivity that is still missing from the office. Any organization can make an impact and change someone’s life for the good just by being inclusive and raising that awareness.

There are many ways one can support those with disabilities in the workforce at this time. These can be very simple things including putting up a poster or spreading awareness through speech in the workplace. Other ideas include starting programs to support those with disabilities as well as actively helping them in the employment space.

NDEAM may not be one of the most known aspects of October to celebrate but it is still one of the best. Only through raising awareness can people become more likely to believe in it and contribute to its efforts.
